Information about the .err (err) file type

This is one of two possibilities that we have on file for the .err file extension, follow this link to view both possibilities.

Below is all the information we have available on file about the .err (err) file type.

MySQL start-up error file.

Each time the MySQL database engine starts it appends to a .err file. If any errors are encountered during the start-up then they will be recorded in this file. Even when starting MySQL successfully the .err file will still be written to but will have information messages appended to it (and not error information).

The .err file is a text readable file, and can be viewed using any text reader.

The .err file is named after the computer. Its full name will be:

where computer-name is the name of the computer/server on which MySQL is being run.

Where this is available we would like to include file format information on .err files, as well as information on how to view or open files of type .err. If you know of any information which we have missed then please let us know.
